Students soap up for Global Handwashing Day 2012

Preschool pupils squirm with excitement while they line up to wash
their hands during the Global Handwashing Day program, Oct. 15.
With soapy hands and and lots of water, Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) preschool teachers Ms. Christine Pelobello, Ms. Jovelyn Eguia, and Ms. Li-anne Agurin taught the students from all levels the proper way of washing their hands in celebration of Global Handwashing Day by the United Nations (UN) and the National Handwashing Day Celebration endorsed by the Department of Education (DepEd), Oct. 15.

Pupils from the preschool department presented a short play showing the importance of washing your hands before a meal. The teachers then showed the steps in proper hand washing and emphasized its importance in preventing diseases. They also told the students that washing with water only is not effective and that soap is needed to kill the bacteria.

After the lecture, students from preschool to Grades 3 lined up in groups and washed their hands together.

Global Handwashing Day aims to promote proper hand washing around the world. It was initiated by the Public Private Partnership for Handwashing and first took place on Oct. 15, 2008.
