RILI competes in nat'l geography quiz

Three junior students of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) competed in the 3rd Philippine Geography Olympiad (PGO), Dec. 1, at the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) in University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).

Isabel Silva, Kate Aprilyn Surbano, and Bethany Praise Ortiz comprised the team that represented RILI in the 3rd PGO and competed against 30 other schools from all over the country. They were coached by Araling Panlipunan teacher Ms. Perla Drilon.

Contestants were quizzed on earth science, weather, geography, culture, wildlife, and related topics.

This year's top three schools are Philippine Science High School - Southern Mindanao Campus (champion), Ateneo de Manila High School (1st runner up), and Makati Science High School (2nd runner up).

PGO is a national level contest sponsored by the Geography Society of the University of the Philippines (GSUP) of UPD. RILI is the only participating school from the province of Laguna.

RILI Competes in PGO

Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) competed in the 2nd Philippine Geography Olympiad (PGO), held Dec. 3 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The PGO is a national level quiz contest in geography for third year high school students. Representing RILI are James Christian Espayos, Edmar Magbanua, and Kenneth Cyrus Celso. They were coached by Araling Panlipunan teacher Ms. Perla Drilon.

Contestants were asked questions on general geography, geography of the Philippines, Earth science, biogeography, economic geography, population geography, cultural geography, environmental issues, and general knowledge.

This year's PGO was participated by 20 schools from all over the Philippines. Reaching the finals are the following schools: Manila Science High School, Philippine Science High School (Western Visayas), Philippine Science High School (Central Mindanao), San Jose Del Monte High School, and Marian School of Quezon City. Manila Science High School is this year's champion.
