YNC holds 1st math-sci camp

The Young Newtons Club, the official math and science club of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. held the Math-Sci Camp 2014, Feb. 14-15, at the school grounds. The activity is the first camp hosted by the club and is also the school's first math and science themed camp. Geared towards appreciation of mathematics and science, the camp held activities that will help improve math and science skills.

Preschool and elementary students from Grades 1-3 participated in the day camp in the morning of Feb. 14. Their activities started with the presentation of the groups followed by lectures and games. Different groups received different lectures about the body's main organs as well as the mathematics of date and time.

As a culminating activity, the participants prepared food together and cooked them on a grill with the help of their teacher-facilitators.

The afternoon session was for Grades 4-6 and secondary students. Each group prepared their campsite and then listened to lectures by their leaders. The lectures were followed by other activities and games. Then, dinner was cooked over a grill by facilitators and participants.

One of the highlights of the event was the Search for Ginoo at Binibining Kalikasan 2014. Lester Desoloc and Frecanzie Nogrado were crowned winners of the environment-themed event.

Participants woke up early the next day for a dance exercise and the awarding ceremonies.

Young Newtons Club holds 1st science and math fair

The Young Newtons Club (YNC) held its first science and math fair Nov. 26 at the school grounds. YNC, the official science and mathematics club of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI). The club prepared a short program before letting the students see and use the set-ups and installation artworks that members and other students constructed. They also held a film showing for all levels and a quiz contest for elementary students.

The program started with an opening prayer by YNC vice-presindent Jacob Nathanielz Payag (Grade 5) followed by the opening remarks of club president Ronnel Fajardo (Year IV). Selected high school students then gave a special number. After that, the event's guest speaker, Mr. Randy Orense, gave his message. Mr. Orense is instructor of science at the Laguna State Polytechnic University - Sta. Cruz Campus.

The film showing followed while the installation art contest was taking place. After that, students were given the chance to see and play with the set-ups.

III-Sapphire won the installation art contest while the team of Rovie Mae Dasmariñas (Grade 6), Euclid Ivanna Emmanuel Hidalgo (Grade 5), and Joriel Reyes (Grade 4) won the quiz contest.

The fair's theme for this year is Conservation of Natural Resources to Mitigate the Effects of Global Warming and Climate Change.

RILI attends UP sci-math fair, enters top 10 in scispell contest

Competing against the best schools in Southern Luzon, the National Capital Region, and nearby regions, Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) landed in the top 10 among 54 contestants in the Inter-Elementary SciSpell contest, Oct. 22, at the University of the Philippines Rural High School (UPRHS) in Los Baños, Laguna during the UPRHS Science-Math Fair and Exhibits 2012.

Grade 6 student Marcus Adrian Balinas' score was one of the 10 highest which made him qualify for the semifinals. Contestants spelled words related to General Science, Basic Biology, Introductory Chemistry, Elementary Physics, Earth Science, and Environmental Science. Rovie Mae Dasmariñas (Grade 6) and Jacob Nathanielz Payag (Grade 5) also joined the competition but did not reach the semifinals.

RILI also participated in the Inter-Elementary Poster Making Contest. The school was represented by Hannah Pauline Abela (Grade 5) and Karell Anne Laluz (Grade 6).

Members of the Young Newtons Club (YNC) and other students from RILI also attended the fair. Students viewed various set-ups and displays related to mathematics and science.

Mr. Ronaldo Morales and Mrs. Jeroline Ocampo, RILI science teachers, attended a seminar for teachers which were also part of the fair. The seminar, entitled "i-Gen: Students of the Information Age", tackled various advances in information technology available for students and teachers today. Other RILI teachers present in the fair were Mr. Robby Torres, Mrs. Clarissa Almanza, and Mrs. Jennifer Alcantara.

The UPRHS Science-Math Fair and Exhibits is an event organized by the AlGeoTriCS Club and  the Delta Theta Epsilon Science Society, the official mathematics club and science club of UPRHS, respectively. This year's theme is "Making Progress through Information Management and Scientific Innovations".

Members of the Young Newtons Club (YNC), the official math and science club of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) attended the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) Science Summit  for Region 4A held Sept. 8-9 at Caritas Don Bosco School in Biñan, Laguna. Participants to the summit include elementary and secondary students from public and private schools in the region who are active in science clubbing.

This year, the summit's theme is Scientricity: Energizing Science Clubbers for Sustainable Energy. The Young Newtons, as the club members are called, participated in group activities and lectures that further enhanced their knowledge in sustainable sources of energy.

YNC also joined the PSYSC Science Olympiad (PSO). Chirstian Espayos, Kenneth Cyrus Celso, and Ronnel Fajardo, Year IV students, represented YNC to the high school category of the PSO while Marcus Adrian Balinas (Grade 6), Jacob Nathanielz Payag (Grade 5), and Guila Mae Castañeda (Grade 6) were the club's representatives to the elementary category.

The club also participated in the Savonius Windmill competition where participating clubs made miniature windmills. Each club demonstrated how much energy is generated by their windmill.

YNC co-adviser Mr. Ronald Morales was also present in the summit. He and three other RILI teachers--Mrs. Jeroline Ocampo, Mrs. Ma. Clarissa Almanza, and Mr. Robby Torres--attended the summit's I Teach Science Seminar (ITSS). The seminar was designed to provide new inputs for high school teachers regarding sustainable energy.
