The Black Fighting Dragonflies of the high school department of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) reached the semifinals of the badminton matches and finished 3rd in the boys' and girls' 100-m dash at the Pila District Meet, Oct. 11-12.
RILI's girls' doubles players Isabel Silva and Bethany Praise Ortiz reached the semifinals by beating South Greenville School (SGS) in their first round match, 30-14. They then smashed through their second round opponent San Antonio de Padua College (SAPC), 30-19, before losing to Colegio Monterei de Pila (CMP), 22-30.
Girls' singles player Krystal Karen Kaye Payag beat St. Therese of the Child Jesus Academy (STCJA), 30-14, in the first round. She then lost in the next round to CMP, 14-30.
Badminton boys' doubles players Mark Donnel de Patiño and Bryan Oquendo defeated SGS in the first round match 30-27. The two, however, failed to compete in the succeeding round due to conflicting game schedules.
Meanwhile, Dragonfly runners John Nico Chumacera and Dianne Karell Mapalad both finished 3rd in the 100-m dash for boys and girls, respectively. Private Elementary Schools Athletic Association of Pila (PESAAP) boys' 100-m dash champion Marcus Adrian Balinas also finished 3rd in the elementary category.
The Black Fighting Dragonflies also participated in chess, boys' volleyball, table tennis, and other track and field events.
The Pila District Meet is an annual athletic event in Pila, Laguna participated by all schools in the district. The champions will represent the district in the Unit Meet.
