Grade 3 Team tops district MTAP

Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) Grade 3 team landed in 1st place in the district level on the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd challenge, a mathematics quiz contest, held Jan.16 in Pila Central Elementary School.

Raven Brady, Klarie Jane Laluz, and Therice Junel Nogrado represented RILI. They shared the top spot with two other schools--Pinagbayanan Elementary School and Pansol Elementary School. Seventeen (17) elementary schools from the district of Pila competed in the contest.

Other teams from RILI also did well in the contest. The Grade 1 team, composed of Christian Miguel Mulinyawe, Lance Glen Jermayne San Mateo, and Jia Frina del Rosario landed in the 5th place overall, and in 1st place among private schools. The Grade 4 team, composed of Lyn Riane Ignacio, Hanna Joyce Desoloc, and Andrei Jeuel Gonzales was in 6th place overall and 2nd among private school.

RILI's representatives in the other categories are the following: Grade 2--Kim Adriel Sta. Maria, Danella Joyce Roque, and Miel Amber Ventura; Grade 5--Denise Lyn Pandacan, Maui Encarnacion, and Kervin Balatibat; and Grade 6--Hannah Pauline Abela, Andrai Jermaine Rumawak, and Jacob Nathanielz Payag.

Student Council leads RILI aid for Yolanda survivors

The Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) Student Council (SC) initiated a school drive to help victims of super typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan). Officers and class representatives urged their co-students to donate rice, bottled water, canned goods and other food items right after classes resumed on Nov. 11.

Officers then collected the items and packed them. They then coordinated with Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter so the goods may be collected and sent to Tacloban.

Super typhoon Yolanda devastated Tacloban, Leyte, and nearby provinces in the Visayas and southern Luzon on Nov. 8. It is said to be the deadliest typhoon to hit Philippines killing at least 5,924. United Nations officials report 11 million have been affected and many are left homeless.

Due to the strength of the typhoon, classes in all levels in Laguna were suspended on Nov. 8 following a directive from the provincial government.

RILI brings true Pinoy street dance in MCL Cup

Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) brought the true spirit of Philippine street dancing during the On Being Equipped Street Dance Competition at the MCL Cup 2013 of the Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) in Cabuyao, Laguna, Nov. 20. RILI competed against five other teams.

RILI's dancers performed in shiny red, blue, pink, and yellow costumes complete with colorful props to reflect the the theme "OBE Shapes You for the Future" (OBE stands for On Being Equipped). They also focused on Philippine culture by giving a feast-of-the-harvest vibe to the dance. According to the contest mechanics, thematic interpretation and representation of regional culture account for 25% of the total score.

Despite this seeming advantage, RILI did not get a podium finish. RILI admin officials and trainers said they were quite surprised with the results but they still respect the judges' decision.

In the contest kit (where the mechanics were included), the contest was entitled "One Being Equipped Street Dance Competition". During the event, it was announced that the title of the contest was entitled "Street Beat Dance Showdown".

Aside from RILI, only one other team performed a dance akin to Philippine street dancing. The other groups performed modern hip-hop dances. The winning team from Southernside Montessori School performed a ballet-contemporary dance.

RILI's team were composed of members of the Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group together with other secondary students. They were coached by Grade 6 adviser Mr. Bryan Mon Rosa and Grade 8 adviser Mr. Freddie Boy Sorromero.

Reina Lhyne Abogado, a Grade 3 pupil of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI), won 3rd place in the Halloween Costume Parade Contest held Oct. 30, at the municipal quadrangle of Pila, Laguna.

Abogado's fearsome look was achieved using a bloody dress and bloody hair with a severed hand. She was also holding a tiyanak and a human skull. Her face was also painted black with a toothy grin.

Contestants paraded around the town plaza asking for candies from different establishments. After which they were judged to determine the scariest and cutest.

Abogado competed with kids from the town of Pila, Laguna. Other representatives of RILI were Lvin Ily Reyes (Preparatory), Adel Sumague (Grade 1), Jhezz Andrei Balatibat (Grade 2), Daphne Raine Narciso (Grade 2), Brent Matthew Modina (Grade 3), and Kristine Rose Perez (Grade 3).

The contest was open to kids aged below 12 years old who are residents of Pila, Laguna. It was sponsored by councilor Reggie Mhar Bote.

RILI students attend UP SciMath Fair

Elementary and high school students of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) participated in the SciMath Fair and Exhibits at the University of the Philippines Rural High School (UPRHS) in Bay, Laguna, Oct. 16-17.

High school students attended the event on Oct. 16 where they viewed exhibits and experimental set-ups. Select student from Grade 7 also participated in the Inter-High School Mural Making Contest. The team representing RILI is composed of Marcus Adrian Balinas, Apple Conte, Erilene Bulandres, and Janne Gladys Tiosen.

On Oct. 17, the elementary students visited the fair. They participated in mini-games in some of the booths in the fair.

Three of the elementary delegates from RILI also joined the Inter-Elementary Sci-Spell, a spelling contest. Representing RILI are Jacob Nathanielz Payag, Andrai Jermaine Rumawak, and Hannah Pauline Abela.

RILI teachers attended the free seminar that happened while contests were going on.

The UPRHS SciMath Fair and Exhibits is an annual event organized by the AlGeoTriCS and DTESS clubs. This year's theme is "Innovation and Sustainability: Effective Drivers for a Balanced Progressive Philippines".
