RILI dancesport team competes in 4th UP Diliman Dancesport Cup

With flashy moves and stunning poses, the Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) dancesport team competed in the 4th UP Diliman Dancesport Cup, Nov. 15, 2014. The contest was held at the NCPAG Assembly Hall at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City.

RILI was represented by Jan Jherico Marciano (Grade 9) and Janne Gladys Tiosen (Grade 8) in the Standard category; and by Mark Herson Vargas (Grade 7) and Careyn Lhyne Abogado (Grade 7) in the Latin category.

Marciano and Tiosen received gold medals for performing an honor dance in the Inter-high school Standard Syllabus Grade D and the Inter-high school Standard Syllabus Grade C categories. They also landed in 3rd place in the Inter-high school Standard Open Grade D and the Inter-high school Standard Open Grade C.

Grade D competitions in Standard require dancers to perform the Waltz and the Tango. Grade C competitions, on the other hand, require dancers to perform the Waltz, the Tango, and the Quickstep.

In the Latin dances, Vargas and Tiosen landed in 5th place in the Inter-high school Latin Syllabus Grade D and 7th place in the Inter-high school Latin Syllabus Grade C. They also landed in 5th place in the following categories: Inter-high school Latin Open Grade D, Inter-high school Latin Open Grade C, and Inter-high school Latin Open Grade B.

Grade D competitions in Latin require dancers to perform the Cha-cha-cha and the Rumba. Grade C competitions require the Cha-cha-cha, the Rumba, and the Jive. Grade B competitions require the Cha-cha-cha, the Rumba, the Jive, and the Samba.

The RILI's dancesport team is trained by Mr. Bryan Mon Rosa (Grade 9 adviser) and Mr. Freddie Boy Sorromero (Grade 5 adviser).

Elementary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities from Metro Manila and CALABARZON participated in the event. This is the first time RILI competed in the said contest.
