BCDG ranks 8th in national folk dance competition

The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group poses at the end of their second dance Binasuan as judges look on.
The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group (BCDG) landed in 8th place at the Kumpetisyong Bayan sa Singkaban (KBS) Rewaynd [sic] Sayaw Katutubo, a national level competition, held September 9, 2016 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan.

The contest required the participating groups to perform two dances: a contest piece and a choice piece. BCDG's contest piece was Sayaw Sta. Isabel, a dance originating from Bulacan, while the choice piece was Binasuan, a skill dance performed while balancing glasses on the head. BCDG was one of the only two teams to perform a skill dance.

Three judges scrutinized the perfomances. In their individual rankings, BCDG ranked as high as 6th in one of the judges. The other two ranked the group 9th and 10th. This gave BCDG an overall rank of 8th out of the 17 participating teams.

Only the top five groups competed in the grand finals. Hiyas ng Hagonoy Folkloric Group from San Pedro National High School in Bulacan won the event.
