Elem scribes win awards in district press tilt

Student journalists from the elementary department of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) earned awards in the Pila District Elementary Schools Press Conference held Sept. 26-28 at South Greenville School in Pila, Laguna.

In the English category, Jacob Nathanielz Payag (Grade 6) place 5th in Editorial Writing, Andrai Jermaine Rumawak (Grade 6) won 7th place in Feature Writing, and Hannah Pauline Abela (Grade 6) placed 8th in Editorial Cartooning. In the Filipino category, Michelle Catandihan (Grade 4) won 6th place in Editorial Cartooning, while Princess Lyn Berara (Grade 6) placed 5th in News Writing.

RILI also participated in Photojournalism - Filipino, represented by Andrei Jeuel Gonzales (Grade 4), and Feature Writing - Filipino, represented by Lyn Rianne Ignacio. The school also joined in the Filipino category of the broadcasting contest. The team representing RILI was comprised of Careyn Lyn Abogado (Grade 6), Mark Laurence Arbasto (Grade 5), Precious Ellaine Aranuelo (Grade 4), Maui Encarnacion (Grade 5), and Lyrelle Jem Labong (Grade 6).

Payag, Rumawak, Abela, Catandihan, and Berara, having earned a place in the top ten of their respective contests qualified to compete in the Division Elementary Schools Press Conference held Oct. 26-27 in Pakil, Laguna.

Bahaghari wins all in dancesport

With high kicks and graceful turns, four members of the Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group (BCDG) of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) won in the two categories of the dancesport competition of the 2013 District Meet in Pila, Laguna, Oct. 3.

In the latin category, Bethany Praise Ortiz and Jan Jherico Marciano represented RILI and competed against eight other pairs. All the pairs performed the rhumba and the cha-cha-cha. The nine pairs were reduced to four after a series of elimination rounds. After which Ortiz and Marciano were declared winners of the category.

In the standard category, Louise Anne Nido and Genesis Viñalon were the representatives of RILI. They competed with two other pairs.

Nido and Viñalon, together with one other pair, danced the waltz. The remaining pair performed the tango. They were judged individually to determine the winner. Nido and Viñalon emerged as the champions.

Ortiz, Marciano, Nido, and Viñalon will represent RILI and the district of Pila in the upcoming 2013 Unit Meet on Oct. 17-19.
