Black Dragonflies win PESAAP sipa, badminton golds

Athletes from the elementary department of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) bagged the gold in sipa and girls' badminton, Aug. 28-29, during the Private Elementary Schools Athletic Association of Pila (PESAAP) athletic meet.

The Black Fighting Dragonflies, RILI's sports team, outkicked the White Sheep of Colegio Monterei de Pila (CMP) in two sets with a score of 15-12, 15-12 to win the championship in sipa (sepak takraw). Comprising RILI's team are Michael Dinoy, Jeuel Gonzales, Kervin Balatibat, and Laurence Arbasto.

RILI's dragonflies again battled with CMP's sheep in girls' badminton championships. In Singles B division, dragonfly Clarissa Anne Pandacan defeated CMP to grab the gold. In Singles A division, CMP defeated RILI's Careyn Lyn Abogado which put her in 2nd spot. The dragonflies also grabbed silver in girls' badminton doubles. Hannah Pauline Abela and Amanda Silva were on their way to winning gold before they lost to CMP in the finals.

The dragonflies also bagged a couple of bronzes in the track and field events. Abogado finished 3rd in the 50-m. dash while Pandacan also finished 3rd in the 100-m. dash. Beverly Gonzales and Maui Encarnacion also participated in the girls' track and field events but did not finish in the top 3. In the boys' running events, RILI was represented by Aldrin Rosales, Balatibat, Batocabe, and Dinoy.

The fighting dragonflies also competed in other events in the PESAAP meet. Dragonfy volleybelles suffered a first round defeat against Liceo de Pila. Comprising RILI's team are Princess Berara, Jem Labong, Lyn Rianne Ignacio, Sapphire Bondad, Michelle Catandihan, Janella Mariz Castillo, Nicole Dapol, Hannah Desoloc, Gonzales.

In chess players RILI was represented by Rosales and Jacob Nathanielz Payag.

There was also a contest for the muses and escorts of each participating school. Andrei Jeuel Gonzales and Lyn Rianne Ignacio were RILI's contestants for Mr. & Ms. PESAAP.

RILI will represent the private schools cluster in sipa and girls' badminton singles in the upcoming District Meet on Oct. 2-3.

Students promote healthy eating in Nutrition Month celebration

Students from Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) - Pila, Laguna and RILI - Concepcion, Tarlac held different programs and events in line with the celebration of Nutrition Month this July.

In the main campus, a program was held with parlor games, contests, and performances from students from different levels, July 31.

In the high school department, Year III students won the mascot-making contest. Their mascot was worn by Grade 1 student Adel Sumague. The Grade 6 students won the elementary division of the contest. Their mascot was worn by Lindsay Althea Almanza from Preparatory.

Michelle Catandihan of Grade 4 won 1st place in the poster-making contest. Adrian Balinas, Grade 7, and Hannah Pauline Abela, Grade 6, won 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

Preschool students and students from the primary levels of the elementary department held art activities. The following students won in their respective classes:

Nursery - Mark Ordonez, 1st place; Eurika Matzui, 2nd place
Kindergarten - Alyana Hernandez, 1st place; Francheska Ruallo, 2nd place
Preparatory - Kervy Lozande, 1st place; Elvin Reyes, 2nd place
Grade 1 - Lee Daphne Quezon, 1st place; Christian Miguel Mulinyawe, 2nd place
Grade 2 - Freiya Robyn Ruallo, 1st place; Sheina Cielo Herradura, 2nd place; Louise Parker Balmes, 3rd place
Grade 3 - Therice Junel Nogrado, 1st place; Myrtle Rain Piyaw, 2nd place; Brent Matthew Modina, 3rd place

There was also a vegetable eating contest which was won by Jhezz Andrei Balatibat (Grade 2) and David James Gonzales (Grade 3).

While contests for the preschool and primary students were being held, the intermediate elementary and secondary students were engaged in a cook fest. The contest was won by the group composed of Louise Ann Nido (Year IV), Danna Mapalad (Grade 7), and Rea Formento (Grade 8). They were coached by English teacher Mr. Claude Van Barlas.

The search for G. at Bb. Nutrisyon, a mini-pageant, was also held in the afternoon. Careyn Lhyn Abogado (Grade 6) and Jherico Marciano (Grade 7) won the contest. Abogado and David Batocabe (Grade 4) won the Most Creative Outfit award. Abogado also won Best in Talent.

The Concepcion, Tarlac campus held a short program, July 26, where students sang, danced, and recited poetry about the importance of eating healthy. After the program, students, teachers, and parents shared a meal of fruits and vegetables.

This year's Nutrition Month celebration's theme is Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-sama Nating Wakasan and revolves around promoting healthy and inexpensive foods to address problems of hunger and malnutrition.
