RILI retains 'Timpalak' championship

The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group of Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. receives their second consecutive Timpalak sa Katutubong Sayaw championship trophy. (Bottom row from left: Pauline Jenica Mole, Allyzza Mae Elnar, Ma. Alexa Labao, Dhoreen Lhyne Abogado, Hannah Chazey Pilongo, Kriz Emmanuel Opinion, Sammuel Rhoye Gonzales, Carl James Intia, Miguel Brandon Manalili, and Marck Alfred Ordoñez)
Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) successfully defended its Timpalak sa Katutubong Sayaw championship by besting 15 other teams, March 7, 2019 at the Pila Municipal Center. RILI was represented by the Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group (BCDG).

BCDG faced tough competition this year from both public and private schools. The contest saw an increase in the number of participating teams--a total of 16--most of which attended a dance clinic. The dance clinic was organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) district Music, Arts, PE, and Health (MAPEH) coordinators to ensure that the participants execute the dance according to the dance literature.

This year's contest piece is Jotabal, a Maria Clara dance originating from Gumaca, Quezon. The dance literature was written by national artist Francisca Reyes Aquino, who researched the dance.

The contest started at around 3:00PM and finished at around 6:00PM. Labuin Elementary School took the podium for the first time with a 2nd place finish. Last year's 2nd place winner Pila Central Elementary School settled for 3rd place this time.

BCDG snatches gold, 2 bronzes in Laguna folkdance tilt

The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group celebrates its three victories at the 3rd Laguna Folk Dance Competition at SM City San Pablo, Dec. 5, 2018.

The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group (BCDG) took home the championship plus two bronzes at the Laguna Folk Dance Competition held Dec. 5, 2018 at SM City San Pablo. The annual competition is organized by the Laguna Tourism Culture, Arts and Trade Office.

BCDG's elementary team, which represented Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI), has been in a winning streak this school year dominating the NAPSPHIL Literary-Musical Competitions just a few months before this contest. They added another championship trophy to their collection by defeating two-time defending champions Sta. Cruz Central Elementary School (SCES). In this category, participants were to choose from two rural dances: Itik-itik and Kalapati. BCDG performed Itik-itik, a dance mimicking the movement of ducks. It was also the choice of runner-up SCES and third place finisher Pacita Complex-I Elementary School.

BCDG also represented RILI in the high school category where competition was tight among schools known for their folk dance teams. Last year's champions San Antonio de Padua College retained their position while Pedro Guevarra Memorial National High School made it to 2nd place after missing the top three in last year's contest. BCDG, however, remains in the podium for two consecutive years after landing in 3rd place. Participants in the high school category were asked to perform either Jota Gumaqueña or Malagueña, both Maria Clara dances. BCDG performed Malagueña while the top two teams chose the other.

A surprise win for BCDG came in the open category which they joined for the first time. With a rookie-laden team, BCDG's aim was just to perform the required piece well--the popular but difficult Tinikling. Perfect timing and minimal mistakes proved enough for BCDG to barge into the top three of the category. Defending champions Sining Kalinangan Dance Troupe from Sta. Cruz retained its spot while Bagong Lahi Dance Troupe from Lumban took 2nd place. BCDG landed in 3rd place. This category is open to any group--professional, school-based, or community-based--unlike in the elementary and high school categories where teams are all school-based.

RILI takes 2 championships, third place finish in maiden NAPSPHIL stint

The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group receive their bronze medals and a plaque during the awarding ceremonies of the National Alliance of Private Schools - Philippines Literary-Musical Competition.

Rainbow Institute of Learning, Inc. (RILI) collected two championships and a third place finish on the first time it joined the National Alliance of Private Schools - Philippines (NAPSPHIL) Literary-Musical (LitMus) Competition. The Bahaghari Cultural Dance Group (BCDG) represented RILI in the Intermediate Level Folk Dance category of the event. They bagged two consecutive championships--the Capitol Chapter level and the LAPPRISADA provincial level--before bringing home the bronze in the regional finals, Sept. 28, 2018 at One Tagaytay Place Hotel in Tagaytay City.

RILI was Laguna's representative to the regional competition where they competed with other teams from the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

With the wins, RILI's administration said that it will strengthen the school's program in the performing arts and that it plans to continue finding avenues where students can showcase their talents.
